That’s where United really screwed up in my opinion (well that and their DISASTROUS response to this whole situation). They should never have started the boarding process knowing that they were still in an overbooked situation and didn’t have enough volunteers (and they also should have gone higher with their offer,

How about his fucking patients?

It’s interesting how you define “violence” as getting the shit beat out of you by not moving fast enough. According to other reports, he already said he needed to get home to treat patients, and was on the phone to his lawyer — you can see the phone still in his hand as his unconscious body was being dragged away, by

This whole “OBEY ANY AND EVERY ORDER YOU ARE GIVEN OR YOUR HUMAN RIGHTS ARE FORFEIT” deal aboard airliners is getting really old.

“And that really upset me. Not because I was upset for myself, but because I was upset for him. I was bothered by the fact that he could be so ignorant. And that there are people out there who could say such a blanketed thing and just be so downright stupid, and just not use the brain that they have. And that’s

There was probably some snafu that caused the plane to be boarded before they realized it was overbooked. It seems like kicking people off after they’ve gotten on the plane leads to more difficulty for psychological reasons.

More unusual is nobody volunteering to give up their seats in exchange for the money and tickets. Ive been seated many times when stewards have asked for volunteers and usually there are far more people looking for the freebies than not. To take on a tactic of dragging someone off seems a bizarrely stupid move on

Right? Also, if the airline needs to fly its employees places then maybe, IDK, book them a fucking seat? How are you going to kick paying passengers off a flight to fly your own damn people around? Does no one at United work in logistics?

The only people that they’re supposed to kick off of overbooked flights are non-rev (employees) passengers. My mom’s worked for airlines for over 40 years, I’ve flown just as much. Employees aren’t priority since flights are free (or discounted) revenue passengers always come first. I don’t know what the hell they

I’ve seen them require/ask for volunteers to deboard for an incentive after boarding many times. Never seen them beat the shit out of someone who didn’t want to do it though, at least not in my experience

I look forward to all the commenters who will show up and say this is standard practice and that if the man didn’t want to be beaten and forcibly removed from the plane, he shouldn’t have boarded it.

If only there were some way to keep airlines from selling more seats than are physically available in a plane.

So if I’m to understand this, this guy already paid for a ticket and was seated, but the airline wanted to give his seat to an employee??? How is this possibly the procedure???

Agreed. There is plenty to say about Ivanka, but I’m surprised so many people on this board seem to ACTUALLY believe that money = happiness and that rich kids can’t have absolutely terrible lives. What the fuck, people?

The second part of that lemonade stand story In The New Yorker is kind of revealing, too, but in a different way:

They persuaded their bodyguard to buy lemonade, and then their driver, and then the maids, who “dug deep for their spare change.”

I know people who bought huge, fancy new constructions in the suburbs and the living room is always called ‘The Great Room’ and the den/spare room on the first floor is ‘The Library.’ The last time I went to one of these homes it was a shower for a friend and the owner of the house was an acquaintance of mine. She

There’s clearly something wrong with him if he’s willing to be married to someone as awful as she is.

THANK YOU for this post. As someone who grew up poor, shopping at Walmart in a poor town, who honestly still has to shop there, I get really tired of the well-off “activists” who decry those who shop there as either people unconcerned with social issues or destitute waifs who need to be pitied.
