New Zealand is out front on this—their national allergy site is awesome!

I’ve noticed it sometimes with apples and cherries...but it’s not consistent. I haven’t experimented to see if the reaction is variety specific or not...or if maybe sometimes I haven’t cleaned them well enough.

Just addressing Mangos. Make sure you completely remove the flesh form the skin. Mango skin contains urushiol, the same thing that causes a reaction to poison ivy. Much lower concentration, but if you are sensitive, it can cause anything from mild irritation to serious blistering.

It happens. I developed an allergy to Oranges and Tomatoes in my early 20's. I also developed nut allergies around that time too. I used to eat almonds and walnuts all the time as a kid but now I cant even touch them. Not to sure how that one developed.

Oh, I know those hives. They are the worst. And even more fun if you get staph and/or cellulitis from the open wounds. Yippee, drug intolerance!

When I developed my autoimmune disorder, my primary physician thought it was Lyme and put me on strong antibiotics. I was already allergic to penicillin, but this seems to have primed my immune system to reject every antibiotic. I can take them for about 3 days before I start becoming allergic and getting full body

Definitely can develop later in life and get worse with exposure. Also, being on some medications can trigger an allergy to things, which may go away when you stop the med but may not. There was a drug I was on for a few years that suddenly made me allergic to shellfish (hives, wheezing, whole deal). Sucked, but it

Fairly good starter article on cross-reactive allergies for you:

This sounds like both my wife and myself, pollen aficionados. For her, bananas and honeydew melons. For me, variable things, but lesser.

These are known allergens--I think bananas are analogous to latex? Stone fruits map to birch pollen, I think---there are charts online.

Yep, it develops over time. That’s pretty typical for this, according to the sources above. I don’t blame you for being cautious!

My mouth is the same way with Bananas and its only started in the past year or so. I used to eat a banana 4-5 times a week. Now I have to avoid them :(.

Yeah, the corn one sucks too. Probably the biggest one for me though is soy, which is a legume. My wife is Chinese, so there’s lots of soy products in what she cooks. Luckily my reaction isn’t anaphylactic, so I don’t have to worry about immediate death or anything, but it’s also not particularly enjoyable and I

If it’s any consolation, I’m 34 and just 2 years ago started to experience tingly, itchy mouth after eating a banana.

Can definitely happen over time. My dad developed allergies to apples, peaches, and some nuts when he was in his late 30s. That one is not terribly uncommon for someone of Germanic descent to develop at around that age, I guess. I didn’t know it until recently, but I likely developed an allergy to apples, corn, and

but if you get a weird tingly feeling in your mouth when you eat raw fruit, you may wonder—can a person be allergic to apples?

Wow! What an amazing thing this group is doing. I am so impressed.

I haven’t been able to bring myself to even watch The Handmaid’s Tale. I already read the book awhile back and that pissed me off. I recently started Mad Men again and while I love it most of it really pisses me off, for reasons I don’t think I need to elaborate on.
