Frankly I'd err to the side of caution. If the game idea is unique enough, possibly sparking interest to an unscrupulous publisher... they'll just find some folks to help them weave it into a game, and throw all short of F2P crap in it.
That was my reaction to it as well. Passion a great thing to have and certainly makes your work more enjoyable, but it doesn't always pay the bills. Sometimes you have no choice but to do the grunt work if you want to eat that month.
