Kudos to you sir.  This is a great post.

I was driving to visit a customer that was near an Air National Guard base one day, nice warm spring day, sunroof open, brain forgot about the air base... started to hear a strange noise, turned down the radio trying to figure it out... F-18 at full throttle flew right over the car.  Damn near needed new pants. I’m

Oh hell yeah, I bet that was the shit

I used live a couple of miles from Ellington. I miss the free airshows from my driveway.

“Brilliantly placed near misses . . .” LOL.

That’s fuckin nuts.

Very cool.

A guy on The War Zone pointed out that in the sequence starting at 0:52 in this video, you can see a explosion-free splash during the attack on Lutzow, which is probably actually this bomb.

I don’t know why so many people think the Golf is the holy grail of practicality.

Boy, that’s a lot of slabside...

Not sure you should be using a 15+yo $500 beater as you’re basis for trash.

You can lift the Grand Caravan as well, Journey’s Off Road sells a kit.
As far as the plastic interior, ALL modern vehicles are like that. As far as the 22 mpg, how were you driving, 22 mpg is me beating the hell out of mine in toewn economy.

For the time, they were fine. If you bought one when it was old and beat that’s on you. They were pretty cockroach unkillable in the original 4cyl 3spd slushbox form. It was that later V6s with the 4spd that gave them a bad rap.

At a time of automotive desperation, I bought one (kinda) from my ex wife. She bought it as we were splitting. A few years later my work beater died and it was sitting in her backyard as she had bought a Jeep. So I asked about it, she said it was getting tired but still drove. So, I offered her $300 and drove it home,

Compromised doors be damn...

Yeah, but... GTI x 2 = ‘opinion dismissed.’

The early Mitsubishi designed 3.0 motors did have an issue with the valve guides dropping down and causing oil leaks. And the automatic transmissions had a problem with the lockup converters staying ‘almost’ locked. If it was the 4 speed they didn’t downshift quickly, and would cause the stalling issue.

So, I may or may not have spent way too long on Autotrader last night, looking at AWD Toyota Siennas. The seats don’t fold into the floor like the FCA vans, but you can put a mother-effing lift kit on them.

Somewhat related, last weekend I went to pick up my rental vehicle for a family trip to OBX. I had reserved a “Standard SUV”, but the one that was returned the night before had some damage. Enterprise guy offers me an “upgrade” to a van. He shows me a shiny blue 2020 Dodge Grand Caravan. I’m a bit disappointed - no
