Pretty sure a plane has a much larger area to recover from a malfunctioning autopilot than an automobile surrounded by other automobiles in a 30ft wide 2 lane road. Technology isn’t there yet. Too many variables. Plus, aren’t planes autopilot’s pre-programmed for specific routes, fuel loads, wind, etc?
