Saw this at TIFF a couple weeks ago. I, being fairly stoned but intentionally ignorant of as many details about the movie as possible, let out a loud “awwww, fuuuuuuuck yes” when Francesa’s name appeared in the opening credit. The man did not disappoint. Helluva flick.

I mean, I’d put Northern Touch on over basically any Drake song ever recorded, but it’s not like Rascalz, Checkmate, Kardinal and Thrust would be recognizable names to basically anyone who didn’t live in Toronto between 1998–2004.

“Raptors” might be goofy 90s cultural detritus, but “Raps” is a top-5 NBA short-hand name (“Blazers” being the clear no. 1). Throw in an Aubrey Graham or two, and “Toronto Raps” = the perfect culmination of the city’s basketball + hip-hop scenes peaking roughly at the same time.

It was more a comment that there’s no need for a country with 1/10 the number of people as the US to have two sports networks
