It look Tesla to force the industry’s hand though, so I will still tip my hat to that even though I have no interest in their vehicles. I’m pretty sure Chevy and Ford would have been content making gasoline vehicles for perpetuity. The fact that they are the ones playing catch up is kind of nuts.

Wait!

I know, right? With SUVs, there’s no niche too small to not fill. I’m still waiting for my midsize, six-wheeled, asymmetric three-door, rotary-engined, manual-transmission SUV to debut.

100%. The baby boomers in my life are already lusting for the Mach-E... they will like having two “familiar” choices even better.

Wait a minute: that can’t be right. An EV that does not weigh three tons, that does not have 600hp, that does not reach 60mph in 3.6 seconds, and is not a dick-length comparison fetish object. Say whut?

Manufacturers have decided that there is never enough overlap when talking CUVs.  Chevy already heavily overlaps the blazer and equinox.  This looks a lot better than the bolt EUV though so I imagine there will be some cuts to the EUV price before this launches.

Aw man. I remember Jalopnik’s original story (2021? Jeez the year really was longer than I realized). Tragic that he didn’t make it to the transplant, but I’m happy that he had optimism and a new (honestly really fucking weird) place to belong in the final months of his life. RIP, Gary. And, uh, Gobbless, I guess.

I’m not saying that.  Im saying that its an expensive and niche product that is very unlikely to need to be launched with a Work Truck trim.  I guess thats the way to get the price down at launch

I thought it was satire? They literally compare him to the American Psycho lol

This is painfully embarrassing bootlicking.

I don’t see Lucid, MB, or any of these car companies overtaking Tesla. Tesla has something that none of them have and none of them can never have. Elon.

Yup, those 47 Fusions were the last of the MY 2020 that Ford had laying around. I remember looking at new Fusions in April 2020. At that time, a dealer quoted me $16k for one of the last new ones they had. That would be a steal in today’s car market.

I think it’d be a more interesting thing to see what the percentage of sales were relative to total inventory of those models year over year. It’s one thing if the 47 Fusions sold in December 2021 were the last ones for sale. It’s another if Ford collectively has a thousand of them for sale across the country and

Eh, of course Ford car sales are dramatically down, because Ford basically stopped selling cars, and when some of their big SUV lines were hit by chip shortages (like so much of the auto industry), I wouldn’t rely too much on 2021 data to reflect any long-term success.

I played around for a solid 20 minutes with that configurator. I’m not sure Platinum is worth it over a loaded Lariat and I’m not sure a loaded Lariat is worth it over a Rivian. Either way I have a father in law with a Lightning on order (Lariat) and a sister in law with a Rivian SUV version on order so I should be

Heated seats should be standard on all electric cars, as they warm you up more efficiently than an electric heater blower.

As is the case with most manufacturers. I would love if we could return to the days when you could order a car the way you wanted it. I’m cool with option packages, as I like a car with nearly all of the bells and whistles, but sometimes certain packages force option choices, I wouldn’t make.

Think that was related to Lightning orders opening up again. Although the pricing on the configurator was a bit depressing - they still force you to buy packages or upgrade to higher trim levels to get basic utilities like heated seats.

First and Second Gears:

For all Buffalo’s flaws, which include being nearly as economically run-down as Detroit, one of the things the city leadership has done well over the years is preserve quite a bit of the late 19th/early 20th century architecture.  There are some surprising architectural gems in Buffalo today.
