I don’t think that is true. There are many otherwise decent people that support this or, more commonly because they would never issue the order themselves, turning a blind eye.

Don’t make this just about men and women. The reality is this is pathetic if you use the male version, too. If I have a 40 year-old son who wants to bang the ballerina at ballet school who is most likely to head to the pros, I would also find that disgusting too.

And, by the way, if you want to take daughter and substitute son, this argument still works with equal force.

But, really, help me out here. Your daughter every year seeks out only a minor league baseball player who has potential to make the big leagues to have sex with. This is messed up. And if you reverse the sexes and make up some similar context, it is still messed up.

Let me frame it this way. Do you have a daughter? A sister? How would you feel if that was her life? It is fun to get on your high liberal horse but I live in the real world.

Sure. Malcolm Gladwell writes about this, too, when he talks about people who cheat on their spouses and display unwavering ethics at work, with friends, etc. So I’m not getting carried away. But I do think these rules work far more often then they don’t. I’d bet far more than even money this is a good kid.
