What’s stupid is that car makers are fully capable of meeting the efficiency standards. Engines have become vastly more efficient over the decades. But instead of that translating to gains in mpg, it translates to gains in horsepower while mpg remains stagnant. Instead of stuffing another 100hp into a Ford family…

It’s OK. We’ll lower the standard and have an even harder time selling cars overseas. Then we’ll impose a tariff, not really understanding that many “foreign” cars are made here and many “domestic” cars are made across a border.

I am extremely disappointed in the styling efforts of Toyota/Lexus. The trucks are okay but the cars and SUVs are awful with the dumb spindle grill (yeah, yeah, that’s the company’s sewing machine heritage). You need to back that claim up. On basically everything but the most bleeding edge performance cars, the breaks are more than capable of overpowering the engine.

While a computer glitch is possible, the jaded cynic in me smells some sort of fraud. Like that runaway Prius that turned out to be just a guy who wanted out from a car loan he couldn’t afford.

I’m not going down the manual or bust road with this. Its 2018. A 5 speed automatic is so outdated. I know a lot of people who have bought 4Runners to daily, and one of the biggest complaints is how dated the powertrain is, and how poor the MPG is.
