Actually, to me it is. I'm good at languages. I'm not good at anything math related. Converting measurements is math.

And inches! I completely baffled my roommate when we couldn't communicate about something room and measurements related. He wouldn't understand why I wouldn't understand his inches and whatever measurements. It was bad.

Do Irish people use cups?

No, of course I'm not serious. But as the others pointed out: think about. What would that do? How would they behave if they had to deal with that situation? Would their explanations still ring true?

See, I'm too young to realize that. The prevalent system my whole life has been the 24h system.

I don't. But when half of the reactions come from angry gawker posters you get the impression.

No. You usually know it beforehand, check it, and it's always a correct guess.

Well, the people would be non-English speaking so they don't know what PBS is. I guess they get the idea from the royal family which makes me wonder if they can't remember the whole toe sucking fiasco?

Yep, the only bus I took was the one going from the hostel way out where the University is to the city.

This IS actually super sad. I tried doing that too when I came home but had to stop because the time allotted to me leaving the bus is too short to be able to say thank you to the bus driver. Everything has to go quick quick quick.

We had a couple of Canadian postes say that Canada using both systems changing apparently arbitrary was really annoying so I'm not that sure that using a number of different systems is that practical and efficient.

I was there for a week and I fell in love with the country and the people. That sounds like such a corny thing to say but it is true!

I work in licencing. I have to send a lot of contracts around. People would get confused if I started to write the dates in official contracts in a somewhat random out of order way.

That was because the answer to my question why do American do that, please explain, was NOT because of their language but "because" which explained nothing at all except that the person was too dumb to understand the concept of a question.

Not only is the answer to that hilarious but also it's economically stupid.

Regular Jezebel commenters: yes, they were.

Where do you write your date? In your personal writings, your diary? Because if you do it in the work place, I'm sure it confuses people. I taught American students in foreign language and the work sheets were handed out with the date written that way (not by me). It always caused confusion with the students as well

It's not only the British. I cannot count the times I've been told by other non English speakers that British English is just so elegant and beautiful and American English so uncultured and ugly.

I don't know. Do you know why Americans largely use the am/pm system in their daily life and reserved the 24h system for the military (which plays a much greater role in society than it does in other countries)?

See, that is SO confusing.
