I actually thought this might happen. My SIII is kinda too light as well, it doesn't sit firmly in my hand. I had an Evo before this with a giant battery pack and it was super heavy, meant it tended to stick to my hand better.

I see your point. I do think though that people often say things are dangerous because "they haven't been proven safe." There is simply no rational reason to believe something for which there is no evidence for.

I'd say io9 itself has posted half a dozen of these stories in the past year and I see one every few weeks on one blog or another. The "put a camera and a GPS on a weather balloon and take pics - its actually not that expensive!" story is quite old.
