If anyone ever accuses LeVar Burton of anything, I am going to launch myself into the sun.

I’m not trying to be snarky, but legitimately curious (I have no strong feelings about NDT one way or the other).  Why is he so problematic?

I worked with a girl who did this. She’d appropriate elements of my life story into her own bio and tell other people while I was in the room/standing right there. And it was always in a professional situation where I couldn’t call her out in front of authors/editors.

You win for having the most appropriate user name for this thread.

I feel your pain.  I grew up in New Mexico but my mom originally hails from Southeastern KS.  I wasn’t allowed to spend a lot of time with my grandparents growing up because my grandfather was an irresponsible drunken gun owner so I didn’t have to spend much time there as a kid.  However, for some bizarre reason my

I guess it all depends on how you read the movie. I watched it in a film criticism class and the prof hated it because he said it had a very conservative message — the good all-american boy war hero becomes wealthy and lives out the American dream, despite his disability, because he works hard, does what he’s supposed

That’s probably why they want her to come home to the Rochester area. It’s illegal in Rochester city limits but not any of the surrounding communities.

I’m assuming that’s why they were so insistent that she come home.  Conversion therapy is banned in Erie County (where Canisius is) and Rochester city limits.  Local media was saying the family was from the “Rochester area” so I’m guessing they’re in a suburb where it’s still legal.

I think you’re confusing Canisius College, which is in North Buffalo/Delaware Park area, with Conesus Lake, which is the westernmost Finger Lake just South of Rochester. That being said, local media was reporting that her family lived in the Rochester area.

Nope, not cynical.  I think you’re pretty much right on the money.

I’m so tired of trying to explain this to people who seem to think these stats mean that people were just randomly keeling over right and left as soon they hit 35.

Came here for this.

I came here to do just this. Sometimes I randomly think of Hugh Grant’s “misappropriation of public funds mobile” and “the cockblocktapus” and laugh at inappropriate times.

I believe it. I spent a year living in West Yorkshire and riding my bike around different bits of Yorkshire and it’s a goldmine for filthy sounding place names. My personal fave was Penistone (pronounced so it would rhyme with “tennis ton” I believe).

That is quite the oversight.

I was thinking more “Disney’s Pocahontas” in space but I agree.  I recall being mostly entertained for a few hours but I definitely didn’t walk out of it thirsty for more.  And the decade that has passed since then hasn’t done anything to change that.

Agreed.  I’d much rather have him distracted by trivial shit than actually trying to implement some kind of agenda.

They actually do this in fancy horses pretty frequently (so they can get gestate a bunch of embryos from one prized female horse all at once).  I’ve sat in on a couple of procedures and you can actually do it pretty inexpensively with a minimal amount of equipment without even having to take the animal to a hospital.

I started watching it and lost interest a few episodes in. Arrested Development used to make me laugh until my sides hurt. The new season just made me embarrassed for the actors.

I looked it up out of curiosity and apparently like 6% of Indo-fijjans are Christian so I guess it’s technically possible if not likely.
