Before I was pregnant, my husband thought our kid should have my last name (anti-patriarchy - I kept my name), and I thought our future kid should have his last name (I wanted her Asian heritage recognized) (nb: using “Asian” to avoid getting too specific about my life). Then I got pregnant, and he wanted her to have

The Alan Parsons soundtrack to Ladyhawke is jarring as hell the first time you watch it. Then it’s kind of hilarious.

In a year where I fell behind in preparing for quals because of a lot of personal shit, including a serious breakup, mental health issues, a parent becoming very ill, and two elderly pets dying within a few months of each other: “Pets die, parents get sick, people move on.”

France strangled Haiti and Haitians for wanting to be treated as human beings, and only kinda-sorta shows remorse.

Also, everyone should be reminded that France demanded repayment from Haiti for lost profits to slave owners after the revolution and continued to take money until the 1940s, and (at least as of 2015) has no intention of paying reparations.

Nuh-uh - red line goes into Maryland. They’re rich out there, but they hate the shit out of Trump. You can get away with that maybe on the Orange and Silver lines (Vienna, Reston).

F THIS MOVIE IN THE A

The link explains - no, it wasn’t.

omg and you just reminded me of this old lj review of Splice, which I read for the first time years after the movie but it’s fantastic, and much better than the movie.

As someone who got a bachelor’s and master’s in English and ended up at an Ivy League law school, hell yeah. (Also, teaching the basics of essay writing to undergrads when I was in grad school helped me so, so much in legal writing - the English-academic-style writing that I did in the first semester, not so much.)

My ex interned at Miramax! I got to hear the best stories while he was there.
