The Show Me state!

I don’t know, you guys. I think she might be lying.

Soda is probably by far more important to avoid; the amount of sugar in soda is gargantuan, and sucrose (by way of fructose) contributes to a ton of health problems. The non-soda parts of fast food probably aren’t great either but their impact is way less severe. Grab a burger and some fries once a week; statistically

Dear Patty,

There is a small town near me with less than 7500 people. It has McD, Burger King, Taco Bell, Subway, and another chain I am forgetting. 7500 is enough people.

I have been trying to kick fast food and soda in order to get healthier. I have made it a month without slipping. I am glad I am doing it, but I miss both things so much. I know it is good for me in the long run, but it has been tougher than I thought.

Both Cincinnati and Cleveland are in the top ten for cities with the most fast food per capita, so there’s that.

I found the survey interesting but I think the survey didn’t take into consideration of where fast food restaurants are located in cities and towns. Montpelier has a population of 7500 people which probably can’t support a McDonald’s on its own and then it depends on the visitors passing through on the highway and

Mississippi is the outlier for the poor states in having relatively few fast food places. I would wager that it is so poor there that the cost of a franchise can not be recouped easily. I bet you would find many, if not most, Mississippi fast food places are clustered in the (relatively) more prosperous areas of the

Not surprisingly, Alabama has the second highest diabetes rate by state in America.

I’d also add average income. Many poor people eat fast food for cheap calories.

You know those Mormons believe variety is the spice of life.

It might be because of the turnpike. I haven’t traveled it in a while, but it seemed like there wasn’t a lot of choice. Seems like in other states, there are more exits on highways, therefore more fast food places.  The turnpike exits are spaced out.

Huh. Can’t believe Ohio didn’t crack the top 10.

Driving south on 75 from Michigan to Florida there is an exit somewhere in Kentucky where you see your first Waffle House.  Every single exit after that has a Waffle House.
