Lots of stories behind the makinkg of that movie. Frankenheimer sent all the actors to the Bondurant driving school - he said that James Garner had the talent to be a decent pro driver. That’s where he got the bug. Yves Montant had a spin out at 130 - I don’t know whether at the school or the set - but it terrified

I went to this movie when it opened, I was 13, me, my best friend and his dad. I still have the ticket stub and the movie program, it’s like a magazine. What a great day that was.

You can’t mention car movies, especially car racing movies, without acknowledging Le Mans. The dialog is rudimentary, but the rest of the movie can't be topped.

Ford vs Ferrari was good for sure, but I think that movie was trying to tell the story of the rivalry part of the story whereas Le Mans was telling the story of the racing itself, so the cars and the race feature more prominently as actual characters in a sense.

I’m A-1 glad to see others touting Grand Prix for being such an awesome flick. When Jalopnik posted on F1, I brought up Grand Prix:

I love Le Mans. The racing is so much better than modern movies, Ford vs Ferrari was good but still had the hollywood “just downshift to pass”

Compared to LeMans which is right next to this movie in my adoration, its got far more dialog! LOL

This is one of my all time favorites too. I have it on Disk and have watched it innumerable times at full volume for that opening sequence. If I recall correctly, for each Race Track, he employed a different cinematic technique or vision to differentiate amongst the moments in race year that it covers.  The behind the

I completely agree with every word you said in your first paragraph. It’s an absolute masterpiece, however one could argue it’s storyline/plot and dialogue isn’t exactly Citizen Kane lol

It’s on TCM in rotation this month; Eve Marie Saint is the Star of the Month; i think it’s also streamable from tcm.com

I have yet to watch the full movie (it’s on my to-do list). I wonder if the movie influenced how F1 is covered nowadays on tv, as the in car camera coverage in an F1 race looks pretty much like the move (minus the panning).

No, it was also Fender. They used Fender sound systems for a couple cars including the MK7 GTI, and it sounded pretty good.

Came here to say this too. We have the wagon and it’s been awesome. Folds up nice and compact and the wheels come off super easy to fit into a sedan trunk and it’s held up nicely for us after a year or so of use so far.

The AMC x Gucci collab is actually sick

It wasn’t Fender, it was First Act.

Joseph Abboud Buicks would like to have a word, but they are too busy talking to Roxy Edition Toyota Echoes.

I actually really dig that Gucci interior.  I wouldn’t like the logo headliner, or explaining that it’s a Gucci edition, but the colour scheme is really nice.

Volkswagen and Fender

What about this

That Gucci AMC Hornet makes no sense (especially for Gucci) but that interior is awesome!
