They’re a “taxi company”... Autonomous transportation is right up their alley.
They’re a “taxi company”... Autonomous transportation is right up their alley.
Uber didn’t start on the streets... they’ve worked quite a while to get to this point.
Many companies do more than just “what they’re known for”
Well considering a bunch of real bridge builders just killed 6 people in Florida, this analogy does not hold up
Imagine if the Wright brother’s never strayed from bicycles...
What the fuck is that paragraph about how Uber is an app company and not a car or engineering company even supposed to mean? Do you think they just told all their app coders to build automonous vehicles? Maybe Nintendo should stick to printing hanafuda cards or GE should stop building turbines and stick to lightbulbs.
Fuck this constant anti-Uber rhetoric. Usually I don’t bother to comment but this is quite ridiculous. Yes, someone died. That is unfortunate, and steps should be taken to prevent that but this is progress in the real world. You make it seem like that never happens in other industries: aerospace, rail, construction...…
just another revenue stream for these companies.
This is a bit funny coming from a company that has a history of acting a bit recklessly, including wrecking a press vehicle, and then it was waived off like “Eh, things happen.”
But when you look at the company’s extensive track record of being irresponsible, exploitative and downright scummy, it’s easy to wonder why anyone is okay with Uber testing self-driving cars at all.
Seriously. How sad is it that that’s the way Ryan wrote it?
Also, it doesn’t hurt that this engine is encased by a pretty stylish-looking sedan
Autonomous vehicles can’t out run laws of physics.
Stop saying “a self-driving Uber vehicle killed a pedestrian”. It is misleading. It is like saying an Amtrak train killed the math student when it was the student who jumped in front of the express train to end his own life.
If I’d ever thought of it, I would have broken a car in some way just to have them work on it.
Sure, but the 5s-fe is a free running engine, which that mechanic had never heard of, and he’s apparently not alone and that’s kind of annoying.
so, you mention several times about changing your belt or chain, but at the end, you advise changing the belt. My understanding was that timing chains last pretty much for the life of the engine and don’t require routine replacement - they might stretch a bit, but that’s it. What’s the collective opinion on the…
I don’t know what’s worse, to be honest. Technology that still needs time to cook, or the overwhelming cascade of ignorance and idiocy that has flooded all forums pertaining to this story.
Me too
I’d like to see the video and the toxicology report from the pedestrian.
