Agree, except liability depends on fault. Was the autonomous car at fault?

Clickbait. Let’s wildly speculate about potential outcomes that seem implausible if you give it more than a second’s thought, but which generate the clicks. #gottagettheclicks

“this shows that Uber’s handling of autonomy has been reckless”

Edgy comment, but I’m wondering - do you have a comp sci background to actually back up these statements? Because if my education was any indication many people end up focusing on real-time safety-critical systems. I had entire courses devoted to that and yet I only studied for my bachelor. NASA, Boeing, and others

Furthermore, the current generation of computer scientists, educated to work in Silicon Valley, are ill-equipped to write and analyze code for safety-critical systems.

What the flying fuck are you going on about?

That’s not true. There are many reckless things that pedestrians can do that put them at fault.

I hope Uber resumes after a full and public analysis of the incident, regardless of how quickly it happens. Responsible engineering means taking time to do things right.

Sadly the media will sensationalize this, yet the track record for autonomous driving and accidents/injuries/deaths is so much better than us human counterparts. I hope Uber quickly resumes. RIP pedestrian.

You can’t test for human behavior in sanitized conditions.

I imagine, with all the sensors and cameras on that thing, this will be the easiest crash investigation in the history of crash investigations.

No its not. Altering the exhaust after the cats is legal in most states as long as it doesn’t exceed the noise limits. It also will not alter the emissions function at all if its after the cats.

actually, in this case old _is_ bad as crash energy management technology has improved by leaps and bounds over the last 10 years, crash standards have become more challenging etc.
these old models are grandfathered to the old standards and so are fundamentally less safe than a car certified to current standards.

Humans are actually pretty good at driving. Okay, there are a lot of accidents, but that’s because it’s not always easy

If you claim that solar activity variation is responsible for climate change, you will have to present a few thousand years of solar record (that you don’t have, as no one does) to prove your case.

Good job spreading the word, AVE is awesome, all jalopners should be sub’d to him

Now playing

AvE’s thoughts/explanation on the bridge collapse. He always produces interesting videos.

I think the height is the issue. It did not address the overall height, which I think is a bad sign. There is no way you are going to get a DHOC engine the same height as a pushrod one. The corvette is notoriously tight on height with that nice sloped hood.

lol. wut? guys are turbo’ing the crap out of their zo6s on stock transmissions/diffs

So what you are saying is Chevy built a better Ford engine than Ford did.

Threshold humor levels for COTD have apparently come down.
