I’ve got a friend named Elizabeth who goes by Betsy (which always surprises me because we’re in our 20s). The list seems endless.

That has got to be weird. It’s funny how names come back into style. My mother has the most ‘50s name ever and I can’t see it coming back into style...but watch by the time her grandkids are grown it’s going to be super popular.
Oh yeah Elizabeth was bound to be one of the names. I just like the continuity with the middleton ladies with everyone being C.E.
There are a serious amount of options for Elizabeth aren’t there.
Ah fair enough. I’ve found lots of parents like to do that. Like they think names are unique and they want people to know they thought of it before whatever celeb or movie/tv show used it.
Yeah, Avery and Madison have been big the last several years. Names are always regional but Charlotte still charts pretty high nationally. Sounds like the people you know just went for other highly ranked names (Avery is number 12, Addison is 19 and falling, Madison has been in the top ten since 2000).
I think that’s such a lovely way to connect family without making everyone have the same first name. Plus y’alls names are lovely!
....why??? Someone fix it!
Sure, but in two to three years will they still be saying that? Is it a connection that’s going to last? Do people named Elizabeth who are 60 and under constantly get asked if they were named for the Queen?
Well the current trend is old and classic names coming back into style. So by simply using a classic they were on trend.
Perhaps, but to say that it’s only about the Queen isn’t really correct. Kate is Catherine Elizabeth and her mother is Carole Elizabeth, so it’s a family name on both sides for Charlotte.
It really is.
...don’t be sorry. Charlotte is super popular. Prince William and Kate were following the trend here instead of setting it.
I think it’s a nice connection without being too matchy.
There might have been protocol but I like to think they put it that way so it matches her mom and grandmother.
Are you having a baby in the next month? If not, no one is going to think that. Charlotte is the 11th most popular baby name in the U.S. There are Charlotte’s aged 0-5 everywhere right now.
To be fair Elizabeth is also Catherine’s middle name, and her mother, Carole’s middle name. That Elizabeth is connecting her to several of her female relatives.
People are exploring it. Check out some of the more well-known baby name blogs you can find all sorts of data on the trends of middle names. Elizabeth is big but so are Grace and Rose.
Oh goodness yes. I’m a grownup but I’m also allergic to tree nuts.
I wonder if they would use a version of Alexander twice? Prince George is George Alexander.
