I think a lot of it might be the fact that this is the one thing they can control. If you have limited economic prospects, didn’t go to college, and most of your friends are in jail, moved away, or also single moms, it turns into the one thing you can do. Be a mom, have a purpose.

The difference is that when the President is pushing his first cabinet picks through confirmation they tend to get a bit of the benefit of the doubt as a professional courtesy, the President won the election, and has the right to have his choices appointed.
