I graduated in the middle of the economic crash in ‘08, and I am in HR, one of the hardest hit by lay-offs. At this point, I had been interviewing for a year and a half. Thankfully, I was working at a family business in my field, so I wasn’t in as bad a situation as the rest of my graduating class.

Or they’re looking for something other than what they posted for. I was interviewed by five different staffing agencies for the same HR job. Come to found out, they wanted an accountant with a little HR experience.
And that’s exactly why you shouldn’t ask the question. It’s not relevant, you can’t base your choices on it, and you open yourself up to discrimination.
You’re right. Don’t look at the ratings. Look at the reviews. Watch for red flags that they have in common. It sucks that you have to read between the lines, but it’ll save your life (or at least your sanity).
Agreed. Especially if there’s more than 100 employees. In that case, it also means “We don’t care what the law says about anything. We don’t want you to have a work-life balance. We’ll expect everyone to do everything. We’re a family.”

Thanks for making clear that you find this pretty disgusting. IMO, rape should never be entertainment. Hell, I hate how sexual violence in general is depicted in general. Men are almost never threatened with rape in movies, TV shows, or comic books. Why are women threatened with it constantly?
