I live in the U.S., and drive a Japanese car (that was built in Japan). It’s the best car in the segment - and has only one domestic equivalent. No reason to believe folks in Japan would rush to buy an inferior product.

The only thing that’s happening to Americans here is that we’re getting screwed at point of sale.

At least in California, you have to either keep the registration current or pay a “Planned Non-Operation” fee. If you just let it lapse, DMV will come after you for the full amount owed when you try and re-register.

Tell me: does a Jalopnik Gold subscription grant one license to use said trademark?

Note to self: if I spend $2mm on a car, spend the extra thousand bucks and add LoJack.

That’s atrocious. Canning that policy sounds like it’d be a great place to start, but they probably can’t afford to give up the revenue.

Interesting perspective - I’m completely ignorant about the area, and talking about this in the abstract sense.

Your concerns are entirely valid, and absolutely should be part of the decision making process - ultimately, it comes down to this: is the taxpayer’s outlay going to be worth it? In other words: this is an investment like any other (it just happens to be made by the government, in the form of a tax break). Like any
