I think in this specific case, the girl already knew that she couldn’t trust her own parents to help and protect her. That messes with your head. 

It is very very very rare for kids to make up sexual abuse. It is far more common that moms are so desperate to keep a man in their life (be it for emotional, financial, or other reasons) that they allow their kids to be abused.

The problem here is that “he requested she videotape it” is already illegal. You’re like “but if he didn’t watch it,” but that doesn’t matter. He already did the wrong thing with step one. I hate every adult in this story, including Rogers mother, who helped harbor the girl. Anyone with an ounce of compassion and two brain cells to rub together would have alerted the authorities.
