That kind of movie only works if you have to shoot it on a miniscule budget with terrible actors over the course of a weekend, a-la Ed Wood's "Glen or Glenda".

That "filming sequels back-to-back" thing didn't work out so well for the "Pirates of the Caribbean" or "Matrix" franchises. In fact I can't think of a film series that produced any good sequels that way since "Back to the Future" 2 and 3.
