I thought they were part of the brand?

Well this was a fun episode to watch with family who hadn't seen the show in years.

After seeing how crushed she was at the end, its nice to see her taking this in stride (and hell, she earned a spot in the Survivor Hall of Fame with this, which she might not have otherwise)

oh my god I had forgotten about that. i know somebody else made a comparison of Hannah and Tina Belcher, but that moment really brought that home

Pocahontas was a child who was then whisked away to england where she died young of foreign illness

precisely

I still have yet to see half of those movies, but yeah, I'd say we're in another boom period (though I wonder what people are calling this boom, since "disney renaissance" is already taken)

That's because most children's stories are pure nightmare fuel, which is why dark re-imaginings of fairy tales are a thing

Oh yeah, the Disney Princess line doesnt have that much to do with actual royalty, given that Kida from "Atlantis" or Princess Eilonwy from "The Black Cauldron" didn't make the cut

Don't forget the prince impregnating the princess while she's in her coma and her only waking up when her infant sucks flax from the spindle out of her finger (sleeping beauty), the Queen dancing to her death in red hot iron shoes (snow white), and the protagonist killing herself rather than becoming a concubine to

just by a smidge, yeah (though i love both of those movies, don't get me wrong, and I'm glad people realize that Lilo and Stitch is top-drawer Disney).

Um…did AVClub have to sell image brightness to pay the electric bills?

No! She actually has a mom, and she even sings a line or two!

Also, Mulan isn't really a princess, more of a "defender of China", which is way more badass (or as a certain president elect might call her, a "defender of Gyna")

Goddam does Thandie Newton deserve all of the accolades this performance; Maeve is my main interest in the show at this point, and Newton is indispensable to the cast (though Wright, Hopkins, and Wood are also exemplary).

I think Derrick's most real moments came out of her desperation for approval and delusions of grandeur, which is why her most iconic moments are her rants about her tin man hems and her book ball look, which she claims belongs in the rupaul museum; not coincidentally, her best moments come from a stripped down Untucked

Thats a pretty valid critique, tbh, and I do think that the season would have benefitted from a few more episodes (though Ru really wanted that 100 queens thing, so there were always going to be 12 unless she brought it back). Still, I think that Derrick had her moments as an antagonist (mainly her bitchiness with

Jujubee, as much as I love her, really coasted on her charisma in season 2 (far more than Adore, who often faces this criticism, ever did). Her track record kind of sucked, but it was a different time.

Disagree entirely. Season 8 has some all time classic episodes (Bitch Perfect and Book Ball are iconic), a hugely colorful cast (much more of a consistent cast, in fact, than the filler-filled season 4), and one of the worthiest winners in the pantheon. And Naomi is a far more deserving finalist than Pearl, Rebecca,

I think what people sometimesforget with Jinkx is that, at the time, she had the best track record of any queen in RPDR herstory (I think Bianca holds that spot now - not counting All Stars seasons of course - but Jinkx is still up there). I mean, she was in the top or winning for 8 out of 11 competitive episodes,
