I enjoyed Anchorman, and I enjoyed Talladega Nights, but it's hard to think of a movie of the time whose success did more damage to the craft of comedy cinema than the former, and hard to think of a better example of the effect than the latter. It's like a decade-long writers' strike at this point.

I felt robbed of scenes that rightly should have been within that movie to connect it. The interrogation of Wayne Knight? Pinch me if I'm dreaming, but did the Coens seriously have that happen off-camera?

The series's (really, commercial franchise's) future will be uneven and lumpy like the people they're slapping all over it and will coast on the goodwill people have for the superior pictures. This is Disney, after all.
