@bigPixel: I also use it in my right hand mostly but I'm right handed. I use my thumb to swipe/tap. While holding it in my right hand, my pinky touches the seam. That's enough to do it for me.

@bigPixel: You don't have to lick anything. Just a single finger bridging the gap on the bottom left side will do it. I don't know why people keep making this out to be some sort of awkward grip, it's quite normal to be touching the left bottom side.

@arebelyankee: Yea, but your speedtest did slow down according to your numbers. But I guess you mean nothing hugely dramatic.

@arebelyankee: Hey, I'm in the NYC area too. I can tell you without a doubt that inside my office in Manhattan, I drop bars when my finger is on the seam. However, outside my building, it doesn't drop as much if at all. Walking down the street, it doesn't drop at all. Then, inside the deli near my office, bars

@arebelyankee: I've had all the prior iPhones and none of them have had such an apparent problem as this one as far as I know. In my regular use though, I can't say that it's been much different in terms of real use. I think I get about the same amount of dropped calls, and data speeds, etc. but I honestly cannot

@FaustsHausUK: Just curious but wouldn't the heat from a fire pretty much damage/melt whatever is in the box even if the exterior of the box is left unscathed? Or does fireproof also mean temperature proof for whatever is inside? I'm not familiar with how it works.

@arebelyankee: So, by your standards, this degradation in data is tolerable? If so, and by your use of a case, I guess you've made up your mind. For me, I'm just not 100% sure. I'm seriously on the fence about this since everything else about it is great. Also, I loathe cases so won't be using one. What to do...

@Steve McNally: The second email (the longer chain) was deemed fake by Apple PR. However, BoyGenius defends that it was real and provided as much proof as possible. An ex-Apple employee stated that the email header domains are actual Apple mail domains.

So what if you have one of these in that range and it's not yet dead. Can you take it in and get it fixed so it won't die or do you have to wait until it dies to get it fixed? Because I would rather get it fixed before it dies so it won't die and lose all my data that's on it. Waiting for it to die before getting it

Bravo, Joel. Bravo.

@arebelyankee: Well then that must be the problem ;)

@dswatson83: I ran multiple speed tests and have confirmed this to be true. I used speedtest.net's iPhone app to compare. All I did was put my pinky on the seam to compare and it seemed that while my download speeds did go down, the upload speeds went down dramatically.

@zensflare: Even if that were the case that thick dry skinned people aren't affected, that's a pretty small minority compared to the majority who do experience this.

@johnbdh: This is the range of serial numbers affected:

@arebelyankee: All you need to do is cover the left bottom seam. That's it. A single finger will do the trick and you don't have to press hard or anything. If you're left-handed and holding it, your palm should cover it completely. Nothing complicated.
