I really think GM could have made a badass i8 competitor. The Voltec drivetrain is one of the greatest feats of engineering to come out of GM.

Yes and no about the being able to afford mainstream cars. I looked at one study that compared prices of car models for sale back to the early 70s. Manufacturers are increasing their average transaction price per vehicle for a couple reasons

And this is also the issue with modern safety standards. I realize we want to you know not die on the road but adding 90 air bags is really causing complications in creating cheap cars. 

I’m in my 40s and I allegedly have the money to buy new cars. Which I absolutely do not. Average price of new car is ~36k right now. So I walk into a dealership, give them 2 or 3 grand on a new Accord and have a $600 a month car payment for the next 5 years? Um no because fuck you. I buy CPO cars that are 2-3 years…

My minimum bills every year are already over that amount. And my wife and I finally were able to get a house. That’s barely over 1000 sq feet in the cheap part of town.

I can accept that motorcycles can be fun. I’m a little confused how a giant, automatic, cruising motorcycle that requires you to wear a lot of heavy clothing and a helmet is more fun that driving an open top roadster that you can drive wearing shorts and no hat. 

I don’t even try to explain why I love the Mazda rotary to people anymore. It’s one of those things in life where you either get it, or you don’t. I know all the drawbacks. Hell, I wrote a highly viewed article where I tell people not to buy an RX-8.
