No one likes confronting their own privilege. It’s disturbing to imagine that other people are experiencing discrimination that you don’t see, so it’s more comfortable to believe it’s not true or it’s being exaggerated. I think what people (who aren’t white) need to understand is that these incidents are literally the tip of iceberg that minorities face in the country when simply asking for the equal treatment as the majority receives when shopping, walking, learning, driving, living, breathing, existing.
