Interesting. I never liked Ms. Kobel; no instinct to trust or like her at all. And I think Arquette’s performance is the only one to really miss the mark among the cast. When Kobel is posing as Mark’s neighbor she is aggressively, intrusively friendly and intimate in her behavior and vocal mannerisms. It’s an act, of

I understand HBO wanting to keep the name of True Detective if only because it has built-in name recognition, but the only thing that connected the first three “seasons” (installments?) was Nic Pizzolatto. Different settings, stories, characters, themes, actors, directors. So what is the motivation for Barry Jenkins

Eeeesh. I was on a remarkably good set the other week with strippers. One of the Power spin-offs. There was an intimacy coordinator there the whole time, and she and the director gave a joint speech up top telling everyone basically “don’t touch them, don’t talk to them, don’t ogle (except when the cameras are rolling)

Yeah I understand why not everyone can just immediately join SAG, but I’m also on set like “this is kinda fucked though. can we get some collective bargaining too?”

It’s been common journalistic practice for a while now, after advocacy from mental health professionals.

You’re telling me The Penguin from Batman Returns isn’t a queer icon?

Its name is Fuecoco and it’s a fire crocodile...

“grown” is the operative word here.

I remain amused by the American habit of casting English actors (Andrew Garfield, Daisy Edgar-Jones) in American roles. They’re great! But where’s the homegrown talent??

Yup. Quite obviously now, we’ve seen how new strains are vaccine-evasive. NY has statewide vaccination rates of about 75%. Didn’t stop us from getting absolutely hammered by Omicron. 90K+ new infections a day for about a week.

Drive My Car did very well: screenplay, director, best foreign picture, best picture. And my instinct is that screenplay, especially, is a tough category to crack for “foreign films”. So congrats to The Worst Person in the World for that, too. A Best Actress nod for Renate Reinsve would have been sick, though.

beyond the reasons noted by others, Punisher is legitimately a fantastic album, and Phoebe is easily the best at social media of the boygenius triumvirate, which has helped her brand grow.

Here for it.

So at best, he still kidnapped dozens of children, brainwashed them into joining a cult, instructed them to dig up explosives, and then was negligent in caring for the emotional and mental well-being of these children such that some of them started making their own interpretations of his pseudo-religion and became

Agreed that almost everything in the present has felt forced and largely unearned.

That’s fair. I’m six episodes in and I haven’t felt that any of the emotional beats were earned so far, except the relationship between Kirsten and Jeevan. I’ve been thoroughly disappointed, and surprised, given its general acclaim.

I agree with you that Arthur and Miranda were miscast for each other, but I don’t think the Arthur we saw is at odds with the Arthur we hear about later. He was warm and charismatic and people liked him! Elizabeth says as much. But he was a terrible husband (see: Miranda, Elizabeth) and father (see: Tyler) because he

Or most Tuskens can be slave traders and they can also be portrayed as an intelligent race with their own customs and value system. We don’t have to like them for them to be humanized. Agree that it’s good the shows are giving them more detail and nuance.

Macbeth is definitely low on laughs, even by the standards of Shakespeare’s other tragedies. Most of what little humor there is is ironic (e.g. Macduff’s birth procedure laying bare the loophole in the witches’ prophecy). The porter is the most notable exception, but the murderers have their laugh lines too.

No mention of RTJ’s “A Christmas Fucking Miracle”? Or Chance and Jeremih’s Christmas EP’s?
