I saw Kubrick’s version of The Shining on opening day in 1980. Kubrick was a master. The kid was good, Nicholson was terrific ... but the film never worked for me and a lot of people (including King). The 4.5 hour TV film in 1997 with Rebecca De Mornay and Steven Weber, is more faithful to the book.

and The Shining (novel) is so much better than the film ever was.

I can’t think of the last time I saw someone with so much money and power be so relentlessly petty. Wait... No, I can think of the last time.

I’m very excited for this! The recent King movies have been pretty decent (except for you DT, but that’s honestly the only book I never liked), especially since K doesn’t have a hand in directing them! (Looking at you Shining made for TV special.)

Ah yes, so many Dark Tower references I see just in this review alone.

Yup definitely the first casualty these parties have certainly never hurt a trans person

Would have been so much easier to just roll coal in the designated color of blue or pink.

Not just gendered, which it surely is, but also denigrating one of her superpowers...

“If you say in the first chapter that there is a Molotov something something hanging on the wall, in the second or third chapter it absolutely must be used to set fire to something. If it’s not going to be used to set something on fire, it shouldn’t be hanging there.”

I think Vicki could have pulled off being Michael better had she brought back the Australian accent.

The fact that this easily searchable answer for why Big Freedia was not in the Beyonce video, but was not included in this article, speaks volumes to the intent of the author of this piece.  Virtue signaling in action right here.

Your daughter is a “fresh grad” and “working her first job” but somehow has money to invest in a brokerage account?? I don’t believe you... (and if this is true, I really don’t care what happens to your daughter’s money as much as I care about her classmates graduating with tens of thousands of dollars of debt.)

Glenn is quickly becoming my favorite newcomer to the faux Good Place.

Michael refuses out of principle, because he doesn’t want Eleanor and the others judging him for what he really is: a 6,000-foot tall fire squid.”

Ray Walston brought a gentleness to the character that I deeply deeply appreciated. Kinnear is, I think, a bit young for the role (but that may be because I can’t remember the book as well as the mini-series), but perfect for it in other ways.

I had the same thought. He’s no My Favorite Martian (honestly, when I saw the ABC miniseries, I realized I had basically been picturing him when I read the book), but I think he fits the part perfectly.

I daydreamed about Warren/Harris, because I think they could kick Trump/Pence's ass in debates and I'd love to see it.

Gillum better watch out if he’s being ‘courted’, I hear Warren is into that freaky shit and wears out Marines in their twenties!

Few things in life have made me stand up and cheer as loudly as I did when Mindy St. Clair got her duffle bags full of cocaine

Eleanor may be the one who gives the most comforting, marshmallow speeches,
