Yes, and that moment of redemption Jack gets at the end of the book is pretty important to the story of Doctor Sleep, which is all about Dan grappling with the legacy of The Overlook and Jack (and, in many ways, turning into Jack.)
Someone who shares my exact opinion of The Shining! Kubrik cast Jack Nicholson, and as soon as you see him, you know how he’s going to end up. I always thought it needed an all-American type - Robert Redford would be my pick, although Harrison Ford (Who Jack is said to resemble in the book) would be great too.
