I say this as a Monster Hunter veteran who RELISHES insane encounters, but whereas MH felt like a fair challenge, Elden Ring felt like it was designed by a bag of dicks. I did my time in the Nintendo Hard days—I just don’t have the time now. But that’s fine—if From doesn’t want to include a mode for working adults

It’s okay for it to become a bit of a different game. It’s still an amazing game, even if you reduce the challenge. You can still benefit from the world exploration, the attention to detail, and general coolness of the game.

Eh. As someone who didn’t enjoy ER until I did that early game rune farm that immediately bumped me from level 15 to level 40, and who farms runes any time I feel particularly frustrated... I think an easy mode wouldn’t hurt that game at all. And I’m already playing a magic/dex build (meaning I’m leaning heavily into

Easy mod user here and I couldn’t disagree more. It’s with the mod that I’m finally having fun with the game, much more than I had before. Now I’m finally thinking about what area to explore next and what enemy to tackle next. I’m actually looking forward to playing the game now when I have some time.

“Obviously people can play the game however they want, but to me the challenge is so clearly a huge part of what you are supposed to get out of the game”

Good thing everyone finds games approximately equally challenging, or this would be a really stupid reason to oppose an easy mode.

What everyone who says dumb shit like this doesn’t seem to understand is that not everyone has has the same ability. If you only hit your dodge rolls half as frequently as the average player, halving the damage you take from the enemies means you still have to make roughly the same number of attempts. The perceived

1. The Game has GRRM attached to it, so it is going to draw somewhat of a crowd that is really story focus. Moreso than your run of the mill RPG

This game is INCREDIBLY unfriendly to experimentation with different builds just due to the complete impossibility of farming any of the last-level upgrade materials. Basically, assuming you did all the sidequests, you can upgrade a grand total of what, like 6 unique weapons and 10 regular weapons? And that’s it,

Your entire post needs an asterisk that says “for me”.  Everything you said applies to you because not everyone plays the game the same way you do.

That may be where you find the fun - but not all are that way. Having an easy mode does not in any way prevent you from playing the game the exact way you do now. But others may find fun in exploring, progressing and being able to take down the boss maybe after one or two tries and not banging their head into the wall

I have medical issues that mean my reflexes take much, much longer than most people to develop muscle memory - literally hundreds of hours for some things. The game looks very much like my thing from a story and exploration perspective - I loved Breath of the Wild - but I am not willing to sink full-time-job amounts

Anytime I play a combat game, I always set it to Easy mode. Difficult combat just isn’t my thing and isn’t fun for me. Easy mode allows me to play a game I wouldn’t otherwise and enjoy all the things I actually love from games, like story, world-building, exploration, etc.

Now playing

Most people on the other side of the aisle also seem to claim that the difficulty is what makes a FromSoft game, but I’d argue it’s not. It’s entirely the exploratory experience. It’s figuring out the timing on that one attack that keeps getting you killed. Or realizing that there already is an easy mode (it’s called

I think you forgot the “/s” at the end of that.

I can literally spend 4 hours just messing with different build ideas.”

Not everyone has that kind of time.

Not necessarily a halflife3 joke but it looks like Gabe was around when Windows 3.0 was released so we know for certain that Gabe can actually release a third iteration of a product.

There’s a Half-Life 3 joke in here somewhere.

Nice ! Digital history from the 90s is wild. So many crazy stories or stroke of luck everywhere. I love the story about the guys at Blizzard refusing to lend an office to a friend who had a promising idea (although totally unrelated to games) while they were working on Diablo 1, which was not an easy game to do. The

This is impressive. I don’t know if some people truly understand how long the TokiMemo community has waited for this.

God bless Tim Rogers. May he continue to avoid his inevitable overwork-based demise for another 40+ years.
