Technically for a righty to hit opposite field he has to speed up either his reaction time or his swing, or open up his stance dramatically. I doubt its very easy to make any of those changes. Would you rather see a .280 hitter hit .250 into the shift, or .220 because he’s make dramatic changes to his mechanics?

Why wouldn’t you just limit shiftable players to 2B and SS? Allow them to function in interchangeably. SS can shift to cover traditional 2B and 2B can play the midline between 1B and 2B. Just ban that dumb shit the LAD pulled with putting the 3B man on 2B.
