Rioja is mostly Tempranillo, which is a common new-world wine. It’s a good note to keep in mind. Garnacha or Grenache (same thing) comes from the region just east of Rioja and is a similar wine. Both are very approchable and generally very mellow wines. Any red drinker should find them amicable.

2012 NY Giants Super Bowl. We were hosting the team in the hotel that I worked in. So when they won we were officially putting on a Super Bowl victory party and not a consolation party. The whole hotel staff, it seemed, was in the ballroom waiting for the outcome of the game. When “our team” won we all lost our shit.
