It’s not necessarily a stumbling block narratively, but it is one in terms of what Star Trek as a series hoped to achieve — showing people being better. I hope these people learn.

If your assertion that “Discovery is the story of HOW the Federation won those morals” is to hold, then there needs to be great tragedy while they act against what is to become the Federation’s morals. Otherwise it makes no sense. If they’re successful while being all maverick-y and “the ends justify the means”, why

Spoofing is a technique used in phishing. By spoofing the From: field, phishing attempts are more successful. DMARC stops that. So yeah, phishing can still happen, but one of the techniques to convince people it’s a legitimate email is thwarted.

Okay, granted, I have a very superficial knowledge of this experiment after reading this, but this makes it sound like this wasn’t due to “cooperation” as we normally understand it — communicating and agreeing to work together based on a plan. It just sounds like the wolves were willing to try to fuck with the thing

This is why it’s important to always use a VPN. You don’t control all of the infrastructure that handles your internet traffic, so you shouldn’t rely on it to do what it promises securely.

It’s not about being prudish, it’s about being weirded out by people who choose to go to a place whose only draw is that you can leer at the waitstaff, and has worse food than most restaurants.

It’d be more like outlawing department stores from selling new clothing while still allowing small boutiques to sell the ones they make.

“They have an entire paragraph about actively re-inventing the wheel whenever possible, and some people will find that to be beyond their comfort range”

Eh, I didn’t like the premise that they must be able to reproduce to be considered worthy of autonomy anyways.

Maybe her eyes *weren’t* green. I had the same thought. Then I realized that might just be Deckard’s way of resisting — he comes up with a reason to say “I don’t believe that’s her, you failed,” even if he’s lying.

Whoa, y’all had a really different read of the Joi subplot than I did.

Because he started outing trans and undocumented students, putting actual safety of real people in danger.

So your idea of fun is easily beating people who haven’t done as much in the game as you? Hm.

Ah, so you were watching the dub? Try watching subs more often. Much more natural translation leads to better dialogue. Also, this varies from show to show, but there tend to be some really horrible dubs out there so watching subs is my default.

Yes absolutely Grave of the Fireflies! I’ve yet to see anyone watch that and not bawl their eyes out at some point

The writing in the beginning was shitty, it gets good. It comes off really kiddish and I was also tempted to stop watching but I wanted something to binge and was out of things. I stuck with it and enjoyed it a lot.

It isn’t though. It’s Western-produced and has a different animation and writing style than Japanese anime. It’s not representative of anime at all.
