She did. She was a history major basically because she was such a daddy’s girl. After Claire goes back she can’t handle it emotionally anymore and switches to engineering.

Yeah, that generation is weird. My mother is a strong feminist (and a lesbian!) and she still has these weird internalized sexist quirks. For example when I was in college I wanted a new ceiling fan in my bedroom because the old one wasn’t working great. Over the holidays I happened to find one on clearance super

I hear ya on that one. My 15 month old napped a grand total of 45 min today because he has 4 coming in (or 6 if you count the two molars that are about 75% in).

He’s my favorite secondary character.

They’ve said that from the start. The actor was cast as “Young Lord John Grey” so it was always going to be a tiny role. I suppose it’s possible that he’ll show up later in a flashback/memory (as I recall LJ does a lot of thinking about The Rising and his first lover when he’s developing a relationship with Jamie) but

It’s not legally required or anything but it’s traditional to refer to former high ranking politicians by the title of the highest elected office they held.

Exactly! “Is a happily married gay man” and “had a one night stand with a glamazon” are not mutually exclusive.

Or the guy living in a box truck in the parking lot at Google

We’ve been there for a long time. I vividly remember LeVar Burton on some cable news show years ago talking about how he taught his sons to roll down the window and stick their hands out to show that they were unarmed if they were ever pulled over by the police.

You’re right and I usually don’t. I’ve been out of town without internet for almost 2 weeks (got back last night) and my troll detector is a little off.

It doesn’t show that, not on its own. It only shows that if you include the number of black people killed which the op didn’t.

Thanks but I didn’t label them (us? I guess in my case) that way. That’s the label in the census. You’re right though that it’s an important distinction in this kind of a discussion.

That’s a meaningless statistic. Black people are only about 13% of the population compared to about 63% non-Hispanic whites which means white people outnumber black by more than a factor of 4. There would have to be more than 4 times as many white people killed than black people to even say that they were equally

Most of the time they aren’t “actively hunting and killing blacks” but in any given situation a black person’s interaction with the police is exponentially more likely to end up with the them being shot/killed than a white person in the exact same situation.

Mine liked the stroller thankfully so that worked for a lot of situations. We did use a harness with a leash on the beach two summers (when he was 2 and three and I was pregnant and had an 8 month old respectively). It was weird because if the harness was on he’d sit and play quietly but if you took it off he’d

Yeah, my MIL (who I really like and get along with great) was all “it’s just a little gator”. She’s a smart woman so I can only assume that this was because they were new to the area (they bought the house about the time my son was born and moved down full time maybe 3 years later). Meanwhile I have family in Florida

My son is autistic and a runner and I wouldn’t let him visit his grandparents in NC for years partially because of gators. Their yard backs up to a pond (it’s a water feature on the golf course) and there are always turtles in the pond; that is until the gator that migrates from pond to pond around the course shows up

No. I assume that there were white kids with better grades than her but still not in the top 10% who were turned down also.

Yep, the Speaker has almost dictatorial control over what happens in the chambers. He could turn have them hauled out, he could have their cell phones confiscated, he could turn off the lights/power/wifi etc. Like I said though I don’t think he’s stupid enough to do any of that. Turning off the C-Span cameras was

A filibuster is allowable under the Senate rules; this is not. Technically Ryan has the authority to have them all physically and forcibly removed. I don’t think he’s that stupid but we’ll see.
