Are you a fellow Chicagoan? Because Portillo’s is my go-to for everything fast food. Their hot dogs are fantastic but I’ve rarely been disappointed with anything I’ve had there, especially the Italian beef.

Hot dogs are either disparaged for not being a “real meal” or placed in the very narrow mindset of only being for backyard grilling and cookouts. But they’re simple and you can easily spruce them up with good toppings and better buns.
