Have you ever read Georgette Heyer? She was a prolific writer from the '30s who wrote murder mysteries (how I got to know her). But she paid the rent with writing and she has a whole series of Regency period romances. It's a bit like reading Jane Austen but a little more accessible. There is a ton of period

I'm 26 & a woman & this isn't at all a surprise to me - I know plenty of couples where the girl does all the cooking & cleaning. Drives me crazy.

You don't wanna go there. They don't have Fridays.

Not really.

1000 times yes to all of these!

King Arthur's Round Table in the 12th century? Laughable indeed...

Seriously - I just found a piece of purple glitter on my 9 week old's face. The offending art project came home with big sister from preschool about 6 weeks ago and was trashed as soon as she forgot about its existence (approximately 2 hours after she brought it home).

And "trickling" isn't much better. The thesaurus is unfortunately weighted rather heavily against GOOD words for this very important action...! But I suppose context helps. A good writer can employ one of those verbs in a way that makes them more earthy-sexy than disgusting. (This writer is not one of 'em.)

This was one of my favorite childhood series/authors and I have high hopes.... I loved Meg and her awkwardness. It was amazing to realize that not all heroes had to be stereotypically attractive with charisma/social skills.

Anyone else get to High School Biology and then die a little inside when she learned that mitochondria are real but farandolae aren't? FYI, I am a Biology teacher.

I don't want to be that person, but i love this story and if they fuck this up I SWEAR TO GOD

Also, the writing is fucking ON POINT:

AGAIN, let me recommend the Parasol Protectorate. The Protagonist's love interest?

the Duke of Avon? A Georgette Heyer reference to my first crush? Not enough people have read These Old Shades

I think I like Sher because he's smart and I want to be/like to think I am too. Buuuut, oh shit, what if I like him bc I'm a sociopath?! Halp! I need to take the test!

I think I may be part of your fam :) smart but I let my emotions rule me. Thank you for putting words to my madness.

I will hit up the library (but I will be sure to check out a Noam Chomsky anthology and something by David Foster Wallace alongside it so those hipster bitches don't judge. If they say anything I'll go "OH HOW'D THAT GET IN THERE OH WELL NOW I BETTER CHECK IT OUT ANWAY OK BYEEEE")

Bodice rippers aren't my thing, but Lisa Kleypas is awesome. The few historical romances I've read and enjoyed have all been hers.

You lie! Rye bread is best!
