Short: You want more bass? Lower all frequencies except for the bass. You want more treble? Lower all the frequencies except for the treble.

If you are EQing in an environment without a compressor available like on a portable device or your home stereo then never add dB to your frequencies. Always decrease the frequencies that you weren't going to adjust in the first place.
