hmm usually when i read something and there’s a word in there that’s stumping me i check out the dictionary instead of writing a couple paragraphs about not understanding the word, but YMMV

I would say that writers would probably fall into both categories you describe. To use Deadspin as an example, you have guys like Drew and Burneko and Ray Ratto who are unique voices that drive traffic and would be hard to replace.
