Yes, and by the way, this is in no way limited to Italians, it’s just that Italian food is so accessible to the American palate. This exact same phenomenon is largely true of families of Indian and other southern Asian immigrants, who culturally look at cooking much differently and thus put emphasis on it at home (not

I work in an OFFICE and have to deal with this. More often in the fucking bathroom of all places. There’s also a young’n a few cubes down from me who wears headphones, but plays his awful music so loud I can hear it anyway, from two full-wall cubicles away.

I think a lot of the mystique of the “italian mother” is just because they cooked food that has flavor at all. Depending on where you live, ask people what they ate as kids (or even eat now), and yo’ull be horrified by how many people just respond “TV Dinners” or something equally horrifying. The majority of the women

Yup, came here to say this, had one in a basement apartment I lived in for a while.

Jesus that’s convoluted. So there’s no such thing as a “vanity plate” in the UK?

Can any Brits on here explain the bits about the number plates? Are GB plates given in sequential order or something?

Assuming your vehicle is not 40 years old, anytime more than a 30 second warm up idling is unnecessary. There is a comfort factor but if you drive it it will warm up in a minute where it will take 10 to warm up an idling car so. .. still wasteful. But like I said, it’s on me to deal with my OCD, people are free to

Especially the phrase “doctors failed to adequately explain its potential risks” is troubling. I guarantee the doctors said “he could die.” That’s a pretty adequate explanation of risks, I would think.

For some people I think “maybe knowing what they did wrong will help them going forward....” but from the sounds of this particular person, no matter what you say, he’ll tell his friends (if he has any) that you’re a prude / bitch / psycho and never learn.

It’s almost impressive how stupid and obtuse you have to be to make the connection between “ugh, that thing she did annoys me” and “people who dress a certain way deserve rape.” I mean.... that’s a TWISTED connection.

Yes in another post I did clarify that while one person wasting a bit of fuel idling is irrelevant, 20 million people doing it would actually make a pretty big difference in the grand scheme of things. So I agree with everything you said even if I did not express it clearly in the posts you read.

Yeah, like I said to someone else, this is on me and my hangups; in the real world you idling your car for 2 minutes has zero actual effect. Especially when it’s super cold, I get warming up your car (though leaving it idling when you run into a store is kind of dumb, it’s not going to cool down that much in a few

I would never do either of those things, to be honest, I just have the URGE :)

I have an almost pathologically negative reaction to wastefulness. It’s just a pet peeve. I recognize logically that idling a car, especially a modern car, for even 5-10 minutes in the grand scheme of things makes no difference; environmentally, it’s a drop in the ocean (though if everyone who does it DIDN’T do it it

It drives me crazy how many people leave their vehicles running when going into a store or whatever, I’ve been tempted to steal then in general principle.

When I was younger (and poorer) I always thought it was so ridiculous thta people paid for someone to, for example, change their brake pads. It’s a relatively easy job, and on most cars you can do it for under a hundred dollars (as opposed to the ~600 a shop may charge you).

I’m constantly tinkering on my phone and I still can’t imagine having settings open for an average of more than two minutes a day.... wtf.

People who have a vested financial interest in a project mindlessly pimping it out, that NEVER happens!

I mean, I’m talking about Boston fans, so.... assuming you have even basic reading skills it should be obvious but sure. Red Sox.

Ehhhh given our (I say “our” because I live around here) history, when the Pats are inevitably not good in a few years, most people will just forget about them anyway. So yo’ull just have to deal with Sox fans....
