You could draw some similarities to football. Buddy Ryan develops the 46 defense. Offenses move to more short passing, less play action. And so on. And it only took 5-10 years! At the rate baseball strategy evolves, I anticipate teams effectively game planning against the shift in...30 years or so.

I feel pretty confident that, over a long enough timeline, baseball players would get better at using all fields and render the shift a losing proposition. On the other hand, it seems increasingly likely that the inevitable collapse of human civilization will thwart any evolutions of that kind. Ah well.

Shit like this is why banning the shift is dumb. I know, I know, it’s way harder than it looks to use the half of the field that is wide open, especially when the models say that pulling the ball and hitting monster dongs is most efficient. But maybe your model is just wrong. Use the whole damn field!

I know “getting is right” is paramount to many people, but it has really impacted the viewing experience of the game detrimentally. If you watched the first half of the Uruguay-Ecuador game last night you know exactly what I’m talking about.

Also, Doug Ford seemed to be heavily booed (and rightfully so), while Justin Trudeau seemed to get loud cheers.

From the fanciest black tie dinner party to the lowest gathering of hobos and drunks around a trash can fire, there is one thing that will alway remain true: people with guns ruin fucking everything.

Yes clearly a corner kick has a higher scoring likelihood than open play. But that is still most likely going to require an extremely high amount of attempts to yield a goal if the average team scores only once out of every 33 corner kicks. Can you imagine two teams going through even 15 rounds of corner kicks each

He is not smart. He can’t make things go.

I’ve had “Abu Dhabi” stuck in my head for 30 years, and it’s still just as wonderful as I remember.

And no, I DON’T think it’s the reason I became an utter misanthrope... :)

The scoring rate off of corner kicks is only around 3%, so this is not a feasible plan at all.

I probably watched all of the old Garfield and Friends show, but I preferred him in print, preferably before his design got too grotesque. His 9 Lives is my favorite collection:

Rather than debating his most iconic role, can’t we all just agree that Frank Welker himself is iconic?

Fuck that noise lol it’s all about the buddy bears lol (song is still stuck in my head)

This song has been stuck in my head for like 30 years now.

Especially when you learn that Nermal had her passport taken away immediately and had to build a golf course there.

By about a billion times. If Hobbes is the Denver Nuggets, then Garfield is a deflated volleyball being halfheartedly used as a basketball by two disinterested kids in the slums of Detroit.

Garfield is the only comic that actually gets *better* without the titular character (or if not better, at least more real):

The only good thing Garfield has provided for comedy is Garfield Minus Garfield:
