This movie is also where Ethan Hawke began his run of great roles - middle aged Ethan. The “Hawkaissance” if you will. “Great” may be relative, but they’ve all been good, solid career moves for him. He was better than expected in The Magnificent Seven remake and continues his run with The Good Lord Bird.

The show Vinyl had about three bright spots and five bad ones. JCM as Andy Warhol was one of the bright spots.

Heard this in John Oliver’s voice nonetheless. A sleepy John Oliver, perhaps; hugging his pillow, in his jammies, and tucking in for a long night of sweet Driver dreams.

“The Nevers” refers to something Maladie was ranting about on stage in the premiere. Those that never rise above poverty - never get the good seats at the theater etc. I can’t quote it exactly but I remember saying “Ope! They name-checked the show’s title. Box checked.”

Agreed.

I try not to get too bundged up about it. 5 “A” seasons 3 “B” seasons.

The blue girl and the green lady had a rough time of it. But seriously, Maria Rambeau’s death ... seems like there’s more there that the Captain Marvel sequel will address. Misty got her arm hacked off in Luke Cage - that was really harsh, true, but that’s holding to the comics. Maybe you could argue the trauma of

.

They were laying the groundwork to go all Mummy for season 4 ... then the axe fell. But yeah, HM was the best of Penny Dreadful’s big bads.

In Jake Busey's dreams!

I’m more of a B+ on this one. The fx are improving: Speed Force Nora’s lightning is cool and rainbowy. There was real tension in Frost almost blowing the wall off the CCPD. They did a camera set-up/angle as though the wall was going to come down! Plus it was all Cait and Frost - DP with the screen time this week. Who

Laura Donnelly, Ann Skelly, Pip Torrens, and Nick Frost make the show. This was quite a bit too gonzo. Pip says we’re seeing the parts but not the whole. So yeah, lots of parts. I want - or wish I could say this was no more overstuffed than Penny Dreadful or Carnival Row, but it’s like someone at HBO or Whedon himself

Chris Evans is the proper Chris for this.

Thanks, my original post sounds harsh in retrospect.

I posted about this up the line a ways. Here’s a pitch for a cheap and easy moneymaker for the MCU: Do a mockumentary about the Blip as though it was done by Ken Burns. WV, Falcon, and Far From Home are nibbling around the edges. Clear some of this stuff up. Clear up the canon. It could be almost like a clip show!

I noticed that too, but I’m willing to give the in-show characters a pass. For them anyone who fought Thanos twice might be considered an Avenger - proper or honorary or just generally.

Wyatt has some of his parents’ chops.

I rewatched episode 2 last night (because I didn’t really like it at first & wanted to see if I was right or if it was better than I remembered). It’s better insofar as any TV show’s rough edges get smoothed out after multiple rewatches. The scene where we - as audience - are supposed to get what The Flag Smashers are

I agree the Karli thing - the issue with her bombing a building - feels more like a writerly or “second draft” retcon (otherwise she becomes too good of a good guy). It felt more out of place before, but Zemo’s monologue about the serum causing “Superior” self-regard and thus fascistic tendencies helps rescue that
