Since the default 3D-ish gallery sucks big time on my HTC Desire with CM7 I use QuickPic for quite some time now and I think it's great. Never let me down and integrates perfectly with the rest of the system. I'll try JustPictures mentioned in other comments but it'll have to be pretty awesome to get me away from

Most of the people around the world aren't even allowed to register for the beta so there _might_ be doubts inside Google, too, if the product is ready for public use ...

The only plant I just can't get killed is an Asparagus Plumosa [botany.0catch.com] I bought at Ikea. I forget to water it for weeks - a few yellow spots appear and it loses a few leafs but it lives. Then I feel bad and water it every day till every other plant would drown ... still living. Then I forget ... and so on.

I don't know why but I actually prefer mobile pages over a few apps. I don't need Twitter or Facebook notifications or alerts or something so why should I use the app at all? A post now or then is easily done on the mobile pages ... No app running in the background, draining battery, wasting space.

Ok, I just read on a German tech news site (German source: [www.heise.de] that Facebook actually paid a P.R. firm to write anti-Google blog posts concerning ... tada! ... this "social" feature. But instead of posting the piece written by a ghost writer the blogger (Christopher Soghoian: [www.dubfire.net] published the

I totally second that. JDownloader is maybe the best programm around for conveniently downloading files from a huge variety of services. By huge variety I mean currently 110 hosters and still growing (see [jdownloader.org] It also makes copy-paste of links pretty simple by decrypting hundreds of site specific

Actually I think it's kind of great that she knew something about that whole "Locationgate" thing. It may not be completely right or she maybe tried to fit it in her world of landline phones and paper maps but still she tried to keep up with modern times. I love that!

Yes, you can simply get it from the market even without root. The only thing is that you can't use the "su" command without root and therefore won't get superuser priviliges. So there may be quite a few operations where you get "permission denied" as the only result.

It's a good idea to first rename the apk to something like xyz.apk.del instead of deleting it. The phone won't recognize the apk after that so it's like uninstalling. But if there are any side effects after uninstalling (especially a system app) you can simply rename it back and be save again. Of course you could

Well I've got one that goes for software as well as for hardware: patents! Each and every idea - no matter if just stupid or completely insane - is patented and someone gets sued for lots of money for having a maybe just slightly similar idea.

Best thing to do with a custom Windows install: move your user directory to a new partition or drive at install and without any hacks - let's just say: the right way.

The original Sense ROM and especially it's modded versions on xda have a good battery life - like up to three days (depending on usage of course). I use CyanogenMod7 with my Desire and the battery life decreased a bit so I'm at two days tops now. Maybe I should try different governors, CPU settings etc to get a few

While getting root on the Desire might have been hard for hackers in the first place, after Unrevoked did it and made it possible for everyone the Desire is maybe the best piece of hardware I ever used (phone-wise). And after S-OFF by Alpharev there was no limit anymore.

I strongly recommend DroidWall [market.android.com] for rooted Android phones. It's a firewall based on iptables. So if an app "really" needs your GPS and internet access just block at least the latter and be sure the location data can't be sent to the dev.
