This thing is gorgeous! I'm not sure if it's the black, but the car looks simple and sleek like the cars did 20 years ago. I'm really afraid that the colors are hiding all sorts of elaborate little winglets and flaps.

Yep that was the spot.
Grattan is a tricky track. Lots of camber changes and rises with no corner matching any other on the track. My line is a mix of seat time and by walking the track. Some of those missed apexes by the others might be from not getting a good look at the track. I learned a lot by walking the surface. On a couple corners…
Club racing brings along a mix of experience and car prep level. My car was on par with all those in front of me the rest has come from lots of practice learning how to drive quickly and the race craft to work thru those in front of me.
I don't know about Ramen, but you can survive an awfully long time on pb&j
On Lap 1 yeah. I actually grabbed 1st when I was trying to grab 3rd. These Pinto motors are pretty stout though and are non interference motors, so beside floating the valves there was zero damage and ran as strong as normal for the rest of the season.
Yep. There's a very reasonable explanation. I missed qualifying because it rained. Funny story; I left my rain tires at home in favor of bringing an extra set of slicks (not enough room for both in my truck), so there was a downpour in the morning which I had to sit out. With no qualifying lap I had to start from…
On the SCCA club level it can be surprisingly affordable. The car and equipment are the bulk of the expense, but the running costs, if you're sensible, can be comparable to the cost of spending a summer doing trackdays. If you can afford a once a month trackday habit you can afford to race.
What would happen if you crowd funded a crowd funding campaign? Let's start a crowd funding campaign to do a group dinner with Kobayashi!
I think a lot of it comes down purely to driving style. I've seen guys go fast with it looking like a Sunday afternoon stroll in the park while other guys look like they're wrestling a gorilla. Both styles can yield the same lap times. I think the key factor is what that does laps later. Tossing the car around can…
Quick hands. If you watch out the windshield the platform (car) is pretty smooth. Its not snapping around the track and following his intended path pretty well. I think what you're seeing as jerking the wheel around is quick hands to catch the car to keep the slides to a minimum. When you're driving ahead of the…
I've done exactly this. Purchase a cheap, $10, 3.5mm mic from Amazon with a 5 ft cable, drill a 5/16 hole in the side of the Gopro case, plug it in, and put the mic as close to the exhaust as possible (or at least out of direct wind noise, so mini dead cat not necessary).
It's as much a reaction of excitement as it is sweet relief that you made it out the other side in one piece.
Holy QUICK hands!
That prediction is looking pretty good. He's sitting eighth now and still coming forward. But I agree he won't get too much further than 6th as both the ferraris look strong as well as the Williams.
What is rule #1 of working with the Camaro team?
racingGhost who are you? Just happened to venture past this post. It's always fun to read comments on stuff I work on.
I enjoy the field quite a lot. But, I do have the pleasure of working in development so that I get to spend lots of time working in, on, and around vehicles.
Has anyone found Weekend Of A Champion online yet? I've been trying for a month, but I can't find it. My internet skills are failing me!
Yes I am. There were several of us there, and a few of us are racers outside of the office so events like this draw us in for the added competition.
