We plan on telling our child once she start looking at colleges. She’s only 19 months now. I want her to dream and surprise her that we can afford it. I was forced to go to a state college because of cost. I don’t want her to have that limitation.

Can I open up an IRA or Roth for my child if they don’t make income? My toddler is almost two and I have a 529 set up. But I want another income stream for her and I was thinking trust. I thought IRA, but everywhere I read says that the child has to contribute on their end. So I’m confused on this part.

I would do separate. And have different parents as the owner of account for each child. Example: I own the 529 for my daughter and my wife will own the 529 for our 2nd child (whenever that happens).
