I just started getting into investing. Got a brokerage account, upped my 401k, started kids 529, moving towards better online saving interest rates, etc. Wife and I expect a large return this year. And will probably do it again next year. But in 2019, we will definitely adjust our withholdings to get this lower.

Is buying a car rewarding my current and future self?

We don’t have self control yet, so that is why we are getting nearly $10k back this year. I expect to be in a much better position in 2019, so 2018 tax year will probably be the last year of the large return.

I’m at this point too. We currently have only one withholding for state and everything else zero. So we get a large return. I totally agree with getting it down to zero. But this year will be interesting. So I will probably adjust these in 2019.

The wife and I will be using our tax return to put a down payment on our new car (used car). Will probably take out a loan of $18K. Normally it would go to knocking down our debt, but not this year. We just did a massive balance transfer to a 0% interest card without fees. The car that the new car will be replacing

So if you bought equipment to mine, is that a business expense? What about the added electricity usage?

A tax cut for ALL businesses is better than this Made Only For Amazon deal that a city would have. That’s the difference.

Why can’t your city just be a good city with good infrastructure, access to airports/shipports, and safe to attract a major company? Why does it have to give away money that could be used for its citizens?

Well, that will all be taken care of as I just signed up for a BoA balance transfer CC (based on Nerdwallet’s recommendation) and that shows up fine. So yay!

Pretty much this. We keep it all accessible in a shared Google Docs. Before baby, we would have biweekly financial meetings. Not it’s monthly or during work. Works great.

I’ve had some issues with MINT and other financial sites when I put in my accounts. My 529 doesn’t come in cleanly nor does my CC from the credit union. PayPal credit doesn’t come through either.

My friend and his wife do two things: 10% of both their checks goes into their personal accounts. 90% of wife’s check goes to checking. 90% of husband’s goes to savings (various types).

Yup. I realized this afterwards. Good catch.

God forbid you have a bill and not pay it. Nope. Just use a service and dont pay for it.

Im at this point. I plan to cancel one of my cards (second longest) cause it’s an awful rate. My longest card is even worse, but I’ve had it for 13 years. My score was about 760, but just opened a balance transfer card and transferred all my wife’s debt and some of mine to it. So she’ll get a nice bump and Ill get a

Once again, an unregulated exchange gets hacked. Crazy.

You not watching it and saying others can enjoy it is probably the most refreshing thing I read all week. In today’s world, people would call for an outright ban of such a league. Thank you for being the exemption.

Exactly. Home should be a sanctuary for the world outside your doors. Not to mention the excitement one gets when they had a great day or something good happening to them is infectious.

Agreed. I like asking how my child’s day is. She might surprise you. And it builds conversation skills.

But that means you have control over it. If you buy a song and the server that you used to buy it goes offline, you might not get it again. That is out of your control. This is a big reason why I do not buy my video games digitally.
