1st: the stock market is a casino
3rd: the lawyers _always_ get paid.

1st gear.
I guess? I have no real idea why Rivian is valued that high.
I have been investing in the overall market for 20+ years. Mostly in companies that produce kind of boring things. Electrical connectors, food flavorings, an airline, shampoo, cable television and stuff that people tend to either have to buy or want

Fair play.

The stock market is partying like it’s 1999 1929.”

Stocks, crypto, houses, cars, it all makes perfect sense. There’s no such thing as a bubble.  Investment gains will go on and on forever this time.

something something study history.

I recognize and understand the stock market is about speculation on future value. My point is this is a wildly irresponsible speculation relative to the value of succesful, legacy auto companies where are actually, successfully producing vehicles.

You mean that Ford company that has a nationwide dealership and repair network, that has 100 years of parts delivery experience, that is making their electric truck based on the best selling vehicle in the country that every auto parts store in the country has parts for, and is only worth 1/2.

Absolutely. I’m in a no-inspection state, and the clapped out garbage on wheels I see every day is frankly terrifying.

I find it funny, because Ford is probably going to be next to market with an EV truck, and quite soon.  And yet Ford has a market cap that is just over half of Rivians.  Like, a company is about to release a competitor to the only product that Rivian makes, in addition to offering a shit ton of other stuff, and they

Anyone out there in favor of some sort of national inspection criteria?

Yes totally it is just gambling and perception.  Rivian is worth more than companies that have been making cars for over 100 years.

1st Gear: Once again, the stock market is just nonsense hand waving. It’s absolute gibberish to say Rivian, a company with no revenue or products, is worth nearly as much as Volkswagen, one of the most successful car companies in the world.

You sure I’m the one being oversensitive here boss?

Paid by everyone for everyone, free at point of service. It’s not a gotcha to describe how taxes work to fund public services.

A hit dog will holler…

I like what Elon has done for advancing electric vehicles and lowering the cost of launching things into space. Even if he didn’t personally engineer these things, he challenged the companies to do better - and they have.

A thousand times this. if you’re going to try and profit from the nostalgia of an old nameplate, you better be prepared to meet or exceed the expectations of what the older product means to people. Did the Integra come in a 5-door flavor? Yes. Is that what people remember and love when they think “Integra”? Nope.

This. Dear god this.

Counterpoint - Manufactures are reviving nameplates expressly to profit off of your rose colored memories of that plate.
