I’m not a huge fan of prescriptive grammar, so nonstandard language generally doesn’t bother me. I think we should accept that language is not static. That said, I also think that people should be able to discern what usages of language are appropriate for each setting (casual, professional, etc). I think it’s pretty

Good to know! Is it something I have to buy when I get there, or can I buy it beforehand?

I think for me, the whole family history being unraveled thing is actually a draw. I don’t know my dad, and my great grandmom was an orphan, so I don’t have a lot of family history to go off of. I just wish I didn’t have to sign away my data to find where I come from lol

:( I’m sorry for your loss.

I’m going to Toronto for the first time next summer, so I’m looking forward to all the tips! Especially when it comes to getting around the city :)

I figured I lost this fight the second bad and boujee came out. Now I’m bougie for spelling the damn word bougie.

That was my first thought, but maybe I’m too cynical...

My family has a white auntie that makes a BOMB banana pudding and everyone is legitimately excited when she comes by. If you can make a really good dessert I’d bring it. That said, I wouldn’t try any pies.

Me and my white SO spend thanksgiving with our respective families separately. I would be so upset if I went to a thanksgiving dinner with no sweet potato pie and no greens. *shudder*

I always look forward to your FFVII videos and have recommended them to a few people. Good job, as always! I love learning linguistic quirks although they might not be as helpful in my day to day life.

That’s quite an unpopular opinion, in my experience. I loved the blobs though, I thought they were quite cute. It seemed like they got so much hate from both android and ios people though :(. It seems like the newer ones are less easily misunderstood across platforms though.

Actually, most learners of Chinese are taught that it’s more important to learn simplified first, due to China’s relative power to Taiwan. Singapore uses simplified as well. That’s not to say learning traditional isn’t important, but that means that most resources for Chinese learners will be in simplified. I do like

No problem. Thanks for the write up!

Do you mean Macau?

That’s really tough. You shouldn’t have to make sacrifices to expose your children to a diverse environment, but that’s how things typically are.

Yep! This is true. I went to a bad school (cop presence, fights, low quality teachers), but from what I’ve seen at least, the school tried its hardest to shelter the “good/smart” kids from everyone else. We all took the same honors/AP/IB classes together, and the school district paid for all our AP exams. We had a

I can’t speak as a parent, but I can speak as someone who grew up as a child in a city, in a neighborhood that some people considered dangerous (conversely, people in poorer neighborhoods would die laughing if I told them people thought that.). I found that growing up in a city made me a lot more used to growing up

This made me smile. I was never really into DragonBall Z growing up (I just watched it since Sailor moon was in the same time block on toonami), but my little brother is 10 now, and he loves it even more than his dad does. I try my best to feign like I keep up with the show (I mean I do, through Kotaku articles)

Agreed! I actually think of myself as northern (conceptually, I feel like the south starts with Virginia) but people from the Northeast will fight me tooth and nail on it. I’ve settled with the term Mid-Atlantic, but I’ve even seen some people cut off the Mid-Atlantic at Pennsylvania. So I’ve kinda gone with the
