Having grown up in lower-income areas, I don’t think people are appreciating the sheer amount of junk poor people can manage to amass. The difference being much of it wasn’t purchased new, or purchased at all.

I work with a lot of low income families in their homes. You definitely do not need to be wealthy to have clutter. In fact, I would say being neat takes more money, because it’s fucking exhausting to be poor and who the fuck wants to clean and organize your house when you’re exhausted from working a double shift.
I thought most people had “career paths” that were treacherous and winding and nowhere near what they went to school for or what they wanted to be when they grew up? (Just me?)
Larry! Larry! Larry!
Are people monetizing their lives like this the reason (or at least part of the reason) Instagram moved away from a chronological timeline to whatever it is now? I can’t imagine that there were a lot of people clamoring for a feed where you have to scroll past half a dozen 2 day old sponcon posts before you can see…
We live in a society that worships celebrity, and this is just the further Kardashianization of young, pretty, stupid white women. “If Kim K can become so famous that she’s talked about on sites like...(totally other sites, not this one)...and all she did was fuck some rapper and leak the video, I can become famous…
“Influencing” is a scam that works because there is a chasm between the people trying to market things (who are mostly older) and their ideal audience (who are mostly younger). It ends up being no different than hiring some kid to build your website or do your SEO because you don’t want to learn how to do it yourself.…
This stuff is completely out of control. ONe of the mother’s at my kid’s dance studio is currently starting an instagram for her daughter, because the daughter wants to be a brand ambassador and influencer.
I’m a self-proclaimed cheese plate expert (because unlike this woman who probably doesn’t actually consume them, I do). Totally with you on the crackers. I was insulted that she didn’t call Humboldt Fog by its name. That cheese has been around for A WHILE to have a cream line like that. And those are Castlevetranos,…
Social media has created a “cult of the amateur” (quoting the book of the same name which got panned in the Tech industry because a lot of “amateurs” didn’t like it. An amateur in this context is a person with no actual experience, degree, internship, and so on garnering tons of attention on social media. People…
WARNING: OLD LADY RANT
I’m no self-proclaimed cheese plate expert, but if you have three huge cheeses on your plate, shouldn’t you have more than 8 crackers on the plate as well? And I’d put different types of crackers - sturdy ones for the sturdy cheese, and some plain options for those who don’t like nuts and seeds. And it’s COMpote, not c…
I took a deep dive on this hapless grifter a couple of days ago, so I can fill you in. Basically, she’s claiming she “invented” the practice of writing long paragraphs instead of captions on her Instagram posts, and the book was supposedly going to be composed of all of that word salad, somehow stitched together into…
Dude there are a whole bunch of good men in the ad itself. It’s served up in very simple and explicit images: they’re right there, doing good things!
Also - it explicitly addresses the issue of the inculturation you’re talking about, and asks us to (a) recognize and (b) rescue ourselves from it. Further, in multiple…
In response to your first sentence (however long that goes on) - no, that’s your assumption. It’s entirely possible to watch this advert and not assume a single one of those things.
That, and that fact that anyone would even MENTION them as a group instead of as the societal norm.
The responses are fucking insane. I can’t see how anyone finds it offensive to suggest it’s better that a grown man intervene when a school kid is being beat up by a gang of kids?
PrEP is God’s work, at this point. It’s changed so much for so many, including in our communities of color.
For the love of god people, don’t bring the moralizing jerks out of the grays.
First of all this Fentanyl and/or deriates are shit obviously. Sadly this headline sounds like a normal day in Vancouver. Finally worth reading perhaps http://www.philly.com/philly/health/addiction/overdose-just-by-touching-fentanyl-scientifically-impossible-experts-say-20170630.html
